Provided is an organic electroluminescent element (organic EL element) that has practical usefulness and has high efficiency and high driving stability while being low-voltage. The organic electroluminescent element contains a light-emitting layer between an opposing positive electrode and negative electrode. The light-emitting layer contains two host materials and at least one light-emitting dopant. Of the two host materials, one is a host material selected from indolocarbazole compounds having one indolocarbazole ring or indolocarbazole compounds having two indolocarbazole rings, and the other is a host material selected from carbazole compounds.
