This stop device is equipped with: an oscillation unit (10) that can pivot about a first pivot shaft (56) between a contact position, that is, a position where the oscillation unit comes into contact with a work piece (W) being conveyed so as to stop the conveyance of the work piece, and a retreat position, said first pivot shaft (56) being positioned downstream of the stop position in the work conveyance direction; a drive unit (30); and an elastic member (40) that applies a biasing force to the oscillation unit (10) in a direction toward the contact position. The oscillation unit (10) is equipped with: an oscillation section (11) that can pivot about the first pivot shaft (56); and a movable section (12) that has a contact part to be brought into contact with the work piece, is connected to the oscillation section (11) in a pivotable manner via a second pivot shaft (112) which is parallel to the first pivot shaft (56), and pivots with respect to the oscillation section (11) in such a manner that the distance between the first pivot shaft (56) and the contact part decreases as the oscillation unit (10) pivots to the retreat position.
