In order to provide a driving assistance system that is capable of preventing driving assistance from being implemented in situations other than at intersections requiring driving assistance, this driving assistance system (2) is provided with: a microphone (32) that is installed in a vehicle (1), and detects sound information around the vehicle (1); an assistance implementation unit (80) that implements driving assistance; and an assistance determination unit (76) that determines whether or not to implement driving assistance, and determines an the level of assistance when driving assistance is implemented, on the basis of the reverberation of a sound emitted from the vehicle (1), said sound reverberation being included in the sound information detected by the microphone (32). Thus, the assistance implementation unit (80): is capable of performing just the right amount of driving assistance according to the visibility of a crossroad (92) from the road being traveled on (91); and is capable of preventing driving assistance from being implemented in a situation other than at an intersection (93) requiring driving assistance.
