摘要 Provided is a process for producing an inorganic-fiber-bonded ceramic material. This process can produce, in a high yield, an inorganic-fiber-bonded ceramic material which has little defect and in which the texture, structure and dynamic characteristics in the peripheral part are equivalent respectively to those in the central part. Further, the process permits an increase in the size of the ceramic material. A process for producing an inorganic-fiber-bonded ceramic material, characterized by comprising: a first pressing step of setting a laminate obtained by laminating moldings of a coated inorganic fiber, which is composed of both an inorganic fiber part composed of inorganic fibers having a starting temperature of thermal decomposition of 1900°C or lower and a surface layer consisting of an inorganic substance for bonding the inorganic fibers to each other, in a carbon die in such a state that the laminate is surrounded with a ceramic powder, and subjecting the resulting laminate to pressing in an inert gas atmosphere at a temperature of 1000 to 1800°C under a pressure of 5 to 50MPa; and a second pressing step of subjecting the ceramic-coated laminate obtained in the first pressing step to pressing in an inert gas atmosphere at a temperature that is within the range of 1600 to 1900°C and that is higher than the temperature of the first pressing step under a pressure of 5 to 100MPa.
