<p>The objective of/problem addressed by the present invention is to provide a method for producing an aluminum nitride powder that is spherical, has a large average particle size (for example, exceeding 5 mum), and moreover is useful as a heat radiating material filler having high thermal conductivity and superior filling properties. The method for producing aluminum nitride powder is characterized in that when producing aluminum nitride powder by means of reductive nitridation of alumina powder, until a mixture of alumina powder having an average particle size of no greater than 5 mum, a eutectic melting agent, and carbon powder reaches a nitridation rate of the alumina powder of at least 50%, reductive nitridation is performed by baking at a temperature that is at least the melting point of the eutectic melting agent while maintaining an atmosphere such that the percentage of nitrogen in the mixed gas atmosphere of nitrogen and carbon monoxide is 60-85 vol%.</p> |
