PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the degree of degradation is different among a plurality of regions of a mask.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a retardation plate having an alignment pattern including a plurality of regions in which optical axes are aligned in different directions to each other, includes the steps of: arranging an unaligned optical alignment layer to be optically aligned, on one surface of a substrate; preparing a phase difference mask having an alignment pattern in which the plurality of regions with phase difference function of a 1/4 wavelength plate are formed corresponding to the plurality of regions of the alignment pattern of the retardation plate; and aligning the optical alignment layer by irradiating the phase difference mask with elliptical polarization light to irradiate the optical alignment layer with the polarization light emitted from the phase difference mask. |
