PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an alkylthiol, by which an alkylthiol can be produced with high yield.SOLUTION: A method of producing an alkylthiol is carried out by using a hydrogen sulfide metal salt expressed by formula (II):M(SH), where M represents an alkali metal atom or an alkaline earth metal atom and n represents a number indicating an atomic valence of M, as a raw material, which includes a sulfide metal salt expressed by formula (I):MS, where M and n are the same as above described, as an impurity. After the water layer of a mixture liquid prepared by mixing the above hydrogen sulfide metal salt, water, water-insoluble organic solvent and a phase transfer catalyst is controlled to have a pH of 8.5 to 10, the mixture liquid is brought into contact with an halogenated alkyl. |
