PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate having a desired extinction ratio in a visible light region and having light resistance characteristics against strong light, and to provide a liquid crystal projector using the polarizing plate, and a method for producing a polarizing element.SOLUTION: A polarizing element comprises: a substrate transparent to visible light on the substrate; a reflection layer comprising strip thin films formed of metal and extending in one direction, which are arranged at a constant interval; a dielectric layer formed on the reflection layer; and an inorganic particulate layer comprising linearly arranged inorganic fine particles. The inorganic particulate layer is formed at a position corresponding to the strip thin film, on the dielectric layer and in either side face portion of a peak of the strip thin film, and the inorganic particulate layer comprises a wire grid structure having a longitudinal direction which has the same direction as the linearly arranged direction of the inorganic fine particles. |
