PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable stereoscopic image data to be stored and read in and out of image memory easily in a stereoscopic image display device which displays a stereoscopic image in a portrait and a landscape mode.SOLUTION: A stereoscopic image display device 50 displays a stereoscopic image consisting of left-eye and right-eye images on a stereoscopic image display unit 3 by switching between portrait and landscape modes. An image data storage memory 20 holds stereoscopic image data therein by a side by side format. An image data readout unit 10 reads out stereoscopic image data held in the image data storage memory 20 sequentially for each line. When displayed in a landscape mode, a horizontal blanking insertion unit 11 inserts a horizontal blanking period at a time corresponding to the boundary between left-eye image data and right-eye image data output in one line of stereoscopic image data being read and output.
