PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow gradation display corresponding to characteristics of a device to be performed even when the number of types of voltage applied to pixels is small.SOLUTION: A controller 5 detects temperature on the basis of a signal output from a temperature sensor 6 and subtracts colors of image data having 256 gradations which is stored in an image storage area to the number of gradations corresponding to the temperature detected. The controller 5 subtracts the colors to 2 gradations when the temperature is 30°C or higher and subtracts the colors to 4 gradations when the temperature is less than 30°C. The controller 5 causes the image data subjected to subtractive color processing to be stored in a processed image storage area B. The controller 5 controls a scan line drive circuit 130 and a data line drive circuit 140 on the basis of the image data stored in the processed image storage area B and causes the image after color subtraction to be displayed in a display area 100.
