PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for (1) introducing hydroxy group(s) into a substituent-bearing aromatic compound, (2) condensing two or more phenolic hydroxy-containing aromatic compounds via a carbon-carbon bond or ether linkage, and (3) converting a substituent-bearing cyclic olefin into the corresponding aromatic compound, in high efficiency using living cells in which CYP153 is synthesized.SOLUTION: A method for producing an aromatic compound includes a process of making a protein belonging to CYP153 of cytochrome P450 or a fused protein containing the same function as a monooxygenase, and including a step (1) of introducing hydroxy group(s) into a substituent-bearing aromatic compound by making the monooxygenase act thereon, and a step (2) of condensing two or more phenolic hydroxy-containing aromatic compounds via a carbon-carbon bond or ether linkage or a step (3) of converting a substituent-bearing cyclic olefin into the corresponding aromatic compound. |
