PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image feature quantity extraction device that extracts image feature quantity for detecting an object at a high speed by image processing.SOLUTION: Horizontal and vertical differential images are obtained for an input image. The differential images are used to determine luminance gradient intensity and luminance gradient direction in each point on the images (30). The total luminance gradient intensity in a square area corresponding to the size based on a point of interest on the image is divided by the area of the square area to determine the density of the luminance gradient intensity. When a change in the density of the luminance gradient intensity has a peak, the position of the point of interest is defined as the position of the image feature quantity, to specify the size corresponding to the peak of the change in the density of the luminance gradient intensity as a size of the position of the image feature quantity (50), thereby extracting image feature quantity at a high speed for detecting an object. |
