The present invention relates to a device and to a method for handling and positioning a roof section between two sides of the body shell of a motor vehicle. According to the invention, the device is characterized in that the structure (3) that supports the roof section (1) has two parts (11, 12) that allow the roof section (1) to be positioned transversally between the two upper edges of the arches (4) on the side of the body shell (2) by resting against two rigid zones (14a) belonging respectively to the two sides of the body shell (2).
