Provided is an image generating system that has an operation unit and a memory unit and is for generating from an original spectrum image a spectrum image having high wavelength resolution. The operation unit finds a regression curve that is suitable for the original spectrum image, generates a spectrum image by multiplying the response characteristic function of a sensor by the found regression curve, calculates the difference between the generated spectrum image and the original spectrum image and compares the calculated difference and a prescribed threshold value. In a case where, as a result of the comparison, the difference is smaller than the prescribed threshold value, a spectrum image is generated by multiplying the response characteristic function of the sensor by the found regression curve, and in a case where, as a result of the comparison, the difference is larger than the prescribed threshold value, a spectrum image is generated by multiplying the response characteristic function of the sensor by the found regression curve in order to recalculate the generated spectrum image as the original spectrum image.
