<p>A brass alloy which does not undergo dezincification corrosion, has good mechanical properties and casting performance and also has extremely broad utility can be produced. A brass alloy having a component composition containing 0.4 to 3.2 mass% inclusive of Al, 0.001 to 0.3 mass% inclusive of P and 0.1 to 4.5 mass% inclusive of Bi, having a Ni content of 0 to 5.5 mass% inclusive, containing each of Mn, Fe, Pb, Sn, Si, Mg and Cd at a content of 0 to 0.5 mass% inclusive, and also containing Zn, with the remainder made up by Cu and minor elements, wherein the Zn equivalent (Zneq) that is calculated from the contents of Zn and other elements and the Al content (in mass%) fulfill the following formulae (1) and (2): (1) Zneq + 1.7 × Al >= 35.0; and (2) Zneq - 0.45 × Al <= 37.0.</p> |
