The polymerization reactor is provided with a main container (1) and a jacket (2), which is provided so as to cover the outer surface of the main container (1) and which, together with the outer surface of the main container (1), forms a passage for a heat transfer medium to flow. The main container (1) is configured using a clad metal plate, which has: a metal support layer with an internal surface located on the inside of the main container and an external surface located on the outside of the main container; and an inner surface layer, which is bonded to the internal surface of the metal support layer and is obtained from a corrosion resistant metal that is thinner than the metal support layer.
