The system (2) has an electrical gear pump (4) i.e. feed pump, for conveying a fuel from a fuel tank (14) to a high pressure pump (8), which conveys the fuel to a combustion chamber. A measuring unit measures a value of a portion of a fuel amount that flows back from the high pressure pump to the fuel tank. A control device (12) compares the measured value with a threshold value and adjusts an amount of fuel conveyed by the electrical gear pump in response to a deviation of the measured value from the threshold value, where a minimum pressure of the fuel is set in the high pressure pump. An independent claim is also included for a method for injecting a fuel from a fuel tank into a combustion chamber of a combustion engine.
