PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel luminescent laminate useful as a visible light emitting device for emitting visible light by utilizing ultraviolet rays generated by the discharge of Xe gas. SOLUTION: The luminescent laminate includes a phosphor layer formed on a substrate via a wavelength conversion layer containing specified magnesium oxide sintered material power which is excited by ultraviolet rays generated by the discharge of Xe gas to emit ultraviolet rays having peaks in a wavelength range of 230-260 nm, the phosphor layer containing phosphor which is excited by the ultraviolet rays in the wavelength range of 230-260 nm to show visible light emission.
