PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for providing content while tracing a user in a home network system are provided to trace a location of a user without a separate user position recognizing device or user flow tracing device. CONSTITUTION: A moving direction receiving unit (220) receives a moving direction of a user from a first device displaying content. A sensor activating unit (230) activates a user recognition sensor of a second device associated with the moving direction of the user. A content providing unit (210) provides the second device with the content when the second device recognizes the user. The first device recognizes the user using a camera or a user recognition sensor. The first device generates information about moving direction by identifying the moving direction of the user based on a location or direction where the first devices recognizes the user for the last time when the first device is unable to recognize the user.
