A power unit for a straddle-type electric vehicle has an electric motor having output shaft, a transmission mechanism, a controller which controls the electric motor and a case which accommodating them having a support portion which is supported so as to swing relative to a vehicle body. The case includes a wall portion which extends in a front-and-rear direction, the support portion is formed so as to be provided on one side surface of a right side surface or a left side surface of one side of front-and-rear direction of the wall portion. The transmission mechanism is provided so that the axle shaft is provided on one side surface of the right side surface or the left side surface of the other side of the front-and-rear direction of the wall portion. The controller is fixed on a position which is the other side surface of the right side surface or the left side surface of the wall portion and which is the same position as at least part of the support portion in the front-and-rear direction. The electric motor is provided so that the output shaft is provided between the controller and the axle shaft in the front-to-right direction of the wall portion.
