PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bipolar secondary battery capable of discharging a plurality of electric cell layers all at once. SOLUTION: The bipolar secondary battery includes a power generating element 2 in which a plurality of electric cell layers 15a to 15d are laminated by laminating: a bipolar electrode 3 in which a positive electrode active material layer 5 is formed in one surface of collectors 4a to 4d and a negative electrode active material layer 6 is formed in the other surface of the collectors 4a to 4d; and an electrolyte layer 7 inside which ion moves so that the adjacent positive electrode active material layer and the negative electrode active material layer of the bipolar electrode face each other through the electrolyte layer. Discharge circuits 20a to 20d in which switching means 25a to 25d are connected to discharge resistances 24a to 24d, respectively are connected to the electric cell layers 15a to 15d, respectively.
