PURPOSE: A display device and a controlling method thereof are provided to protect a power device and a component by preventing overcurrent generated when inputting a primary color. CONSTITUTION: Image data is inputted. The input image data is divided by each frame. The RGB value of each pixel is extracted from the image data of the divided frame. The use portion of a RGB pixel according to the RGB value of each extracted pixel is confirmed. Consumption current according to the analyzed RGB distribution is confirmed(S110). The consumption current is compared with maximum allowable current(S120). A current value applied to multiple pixels is controlled according to the confirmed consumption current(S140). A color compensation algorithm is applied according to a reduced current value. The color of image data is compensated(S150).
