PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image pickup device and image pickup method which makes it possible to expand the dynamic range of a moving image.SOLUTION: The image pickup device comprises moving image pickup means for photographing a moving image at a loading frame rate which is higher than a recording frame rate, moving image generation means for generating a recording frame rate moving image from the moving image photographed at the loading frame rate, and moving image recording means for recording the generated recording frame rate moving image. The moving image generation means includes: a target frame image determination unit which determines one frame image among a plurality of frame images constituting the moving image photographed at the loading frame rate as a target frame image; a judgment unit which determines the brightness of the target frame image; an image synthesis unit which combines the target frame image with other frame images on the basis of the judgment result; and a moving image generation unit which, by using the composite image of the target frame image and other frame images, generates a recording frame rate moving image which is recorded in the moving image recording means. |
