PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold a VTC angle (a cam phase angle) suitable for starting an engine, even if cam torque acts on variable valve timing mechanism (VTC) from a cam.SOLUTION: When there is an engine starting command, a cam torque characteristic (such as a direction and a size of the cam torque) estimated from an engine rotating angle and a VTC angle in an engine stopping state is read in (S21), and an operation quantity for negating the cam torque is set as a VTC operation quantity when starting the engine (S22-S24). VTC is controlled by the VTC operation quantity until the direction of the cam torque is changed (reversed) (S25-S27). |
