PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input unit and a character input method that can input characters through intuitive operation without disturbing other displays.SOLUTION: When a first touch on a soft key where "a" is displayed is made in a keyboard display area with, for example, a thumb, "a" which is a line head character as a reference character is displayed as a first candidate character at a cursor position in a text display area (state (a)). When an arbitrary position on a touch panel is touched as a second place with another finger, "i" which is a next character in an "a" row is displayed as a candidate character at a cursor position (state (b)). When fingers touching an input surface of the touch panel is increased or decreased in number without putting the finger of the first touch away from the soft key, a candidate character is suitably selected out of "a", "i", "u", "e", and "o" according to the number, and the candidate character displayed at the cursor position changes at each time. |
