摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element having high display quality.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element comprises: a first substrate including a first electrode and subjected to alignment treatment; a second substrate including a second electrode, and subjected to alignment treatment; a liquid crystal layer to be twist-aligned, arranged between the first and the second substrates, and including a chiral agent. In the case where the liquid crystal layer does not contain the chiral agent, when a turning direction of twisting liquid crystal molecules is defined as a first turning direction, the chiral agent applies to the liquid crystal layer a turning performance toward a second turning direction opposite to the first turning direction. An electric field in a thickness direction of the liquid crystal layer can be generated by applying a voltage to the first electrode and the second electrode. At least one of the first substrate and the second substrate is provided with an electrode that can generate an electric field in a direction orthogonal to the thickness direction of the liquid crystal layer by applying a voltage. The alignment treatment and the addition of the chiral agent are performed so that liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer mutually transition between a focal conic alignment state and a reverse twist alignment state by a direction of applying an electric field to the liquid crystal layer.
