PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus in which a printing rate of subsequent pages can be known in advance, by calculating the printing rate of printing image data for every page, calculating the printing rate of a definite section of pages, and successively renewing the page to obtain the printing rate, so that printing is sped up while avoiding printing defects.SOLUTION: A printing apparatus capable of switching a printing speed to a plurality of steps includes: a printing rate-calculating part for calculating the printing rate of each page contained in printing data; a printing rate-calculating part for calculating the print rate of a definite section of pages using the calculated result of the printing rate of each page; a control part for setting the printing speed to a normal mode when the printing rate of a definite section of pages is not less than a predetermined threshold value and setting the printing speed to an increased-speed mode when the printing rate of a definite section of pages is less than the predetermined threshold value; and a print processing part for processing printing on a recording medium in accordance with the normal mode or the increased-speed mode. |
