METHOD FOR PRODUCING HEMATITE FOR IRON-MAKING USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method which enables purification of iron oxide (hematite) having a low sulfur content from an iron oxide-containing leach residue produced in an HPAL process to such an extent that the hematite can be used as an iron-making raw material.SOLUTION: A method for producing (highly pure) hematite for iron-making use in a process comprises adding an oxidizing agent and sulfuric acid to a nickel oxide ore and leaching nickel. Here, leach residue obtained after leaching nickel is subjected to a heat-treatment at ≥600°C, preferably at ≥800°C and ≤1,400°C.
