PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for quickly charging a battery are provided to rapidly charge the battery based on the operation of a protection circuit module of a battery pack. CONSTITUTION: A signal detection unit (110) detects operation signals of a protection circuit module (1) in a battery pack. The operation signals are the signals generated by the operation of the protection circuit module. A sensing unit (120) determines whether of not the battery is fully charged by sensing the charge capacity of a battery cell (2). A battery charging unit (130) charges the battery cell by external power. A charge operation control unit (140) controls the charging of the battery charge unit.
