Regeneration of a hydrogen-ion exchange material known by the Registered Trade Mark "Zeo-Karb," after its use in the removal of copper from a solution of lactic acid, is effected in three stages, the first consisting in passing a partially-exhausted aqueous acid solution, being the affluent from a previous regeneration treatment, through the exchange material until at least 70 per cent by weight of the adsorbed metallic ions therein have been removed, and discarding the exhausted solution, the second stage consisting in passing a further quantity of a partially-exhausted effluent from a previous regeneration, through the material until 80 per cent to 95 per cent of the adsorbed ions have been removed, and the third stage consisting in using fresh aqueous acid solution, the effluents from the second and third stages being stored for use, either combined or separately, in the first and second stages of a subsequent regeneration.ALSO:Regeneration of hydrogen-ion exchange materials is effected in three stages, the first consisting in passing a partially-exhausted aqueous acid solution, being the effluent from a previous regeneration treatment, through the exchange material until at least 70 per cent. by weight of the adsorbed metallic ions therein have been removed, and discarding the exhausted solution, the second stage consisting in passing a further quantity of a partially-exhausted effluent from a previous regeneration, through the material until 80 per cent. to 95 per cent. of the adsorbed ions have been removed, and the third stage consisting in using fresh aqueous acid solution, the effluents from the second and third stages being stored for use, either combined or separately, in the first and second stages of a subsequent regeneration treatment. |
