The hybrid vehicle controller includes a control means that controls the lockup clutch so that a torque capacity of the lockup clutch is an average value of a direct transmission torque transmitted from the internal combustion engine to the power output shaft when an engine speed in stopping the internal combustion engine belongs to a resonant frequency band of the internal combustion engine and so that the torque capacity is larger than the average value when the engine speed during stop control is less than a lower limit value of the resonant frequency band.
