PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of properly suppressing enlargement of an injection hole outlet part from being promoted, when the enlargement of the injection hole outlet part caused by corrosion is recognized.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine 50 includes a fuel injection valve 7 and an ECU 10 in which a pressure of a fuel to be injected is variable and the fuel is injected into a cylinder. The internal combustion engine 50 further includes: an estimation section for estimating an opening size of an outlet part of an injection hole 71d in the fuel injection valve 7 by providing the ECU 10; and a fuel pressure setting section for setting the pressure of the fuel to be injected by the fuel injection valve 7 in such a manner that a collapse position of a cavitation C generated in the fuel injected by the fuel injection valve 7 is prevented from becoming the outlet part of the injection hole 71d in the fuel injection valve 7 in the case where the opening size of the outlet part of the injection hole 71d estimated by the estimation section is larger than a prescribed value α. |
