PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate a specular reflection component from a diffuse reflection component with a small amount of calculation without deteriorating separation accuracy.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus of an embodiment has a reduction unit for reducing a processing object image to a reduced image smaller than the processing object image in size, a calculation unit for calculating a pixel value of a diffuse reflection component of each pixel of the reduced image from the reduced image to calculate a first diffuse reflection image in size equal to that of the reduced image, an expansion unit for expanding the first diffuse reflection image to calculate a second diffuse reflection image in size equal to that of the processing object image, and a subtraction unit for subtracting the second diffuse reflection image from the processing object image to calculate a specular reflection image. |
