<p>PURPOSE: A character input system and a method thereof are provided to facilitate input of characters by touching or dragging. CONSTITUTION: A character input device (100) comprises a control unit (20), a touch screen unit (10), and a storage unit (30). The touch screen unit provides a user with an input unit which configures characters and character strings, and is input from touching or dragging by a user on a displayed input unit. The signal which is generated by the user's touch is delivered through a signal line of the touch screen unit to the control unit. The control unit recognizes the touch of the user, and calculates a corresponding coordinate by recognizing the user movement in a touched state. The storage unit stores various information to receive the input of characters by the operation of a required software and the user.
