PURPOSE: An infant monitoring method and apparatus are provided to enable a guardian to intelligently and efficiently monitor an infant. CONSTITUTION: A control part (600) generates and updates an area guide map to monitor infants or children. The control part maintains a list of known people for monitoring. A sensor module part (604) provides a signal, which is sensed by using multiple sensors, to the control part. The sensed signal is used for generating an accurate area guide map or for recognizing an infant. A camera module part (606) moves the direction of a camera according to the movement of an object monitored by the sensor module part, records an image, and provides the image to the control part. The control part analyzes the signals provided by the sensor module part and the camera module part and then recognizes a thing or an object in the area guide map.
