Techniques for performing a handover in a network with a relay node (RN) are disclosed. The RN is deployed between an eNodeB and a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The RN receives data from one of the eNB and the WTRU and forwards it to the other. The RN receives a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) protocol data unit (PDU) from a serving donor evolved Node-B (DeNB) and transmits it to the WTRU. A method in a DeNB comprises: establishing, by a DeNB, a wireless backhaul link with a RN and an X2 interface with at least one other eNodeB; receiving, by the DeNB, over the wireless backhaul link an X2 application protocol (X2AP) handover request message indicating that a WTRU of the RN is being requested to be handed over to another eNodeB; and sending, by the DeNB, the handover request message to the another eNodeB over the X2 interface. |
