Modulation of stem and progenitor cell differentiation, assays, and uses thereof

Patent No. 593792 Disclosed is the use of a composition in the preparation of a medicament for treating or preventing inflammation in an individual, wherein said composition comprises a therapeutically effective amount of stem or progenitor cells, wherein said stem or progenitor cells have been contacted with an amino-substituted thalidomide analog under conditions under which said stem or progenitor cells differentiate, wherein said cells are not totipotent, and wherein when said stem or progenitor cells are CD34+ or CD133+ hematopoietic stem cells, said inflammation is not neutropenia, chronic granulomatous disease, or infection.
