-8 A filter unit for use over a cooktop can be removably housed within a range hood below the opening and has two sets of baffle plates spaced apart in parallel within rectangular and stackable upper and lower frames to create hot exhaust gas diversion gaps, the baffle plates are trough-shaped and when in use with the upper frame stacked upon the lower frame the frames are vertically spaced at an adjustable distance and the baffle plates of the upper frame member are staggered with respect to the baffle plates of the lower frame member to divert the flow of hot exhaust gas in multiple directions counteracting direct flow through the unit thereby filtering particulate contaminant material from hot exhaust gas. In one version, when in the unit, the troughs of the upper frame baffle plates face downwardly and the troughs of the lower frame baffle plates face upwardly. The vertical distance between frames and thus that of the sets of baffle plates can be adjusted so a to vary the hot gas flow gap and thus the hot exhaust gas flow between the sets of baffle plates. |
