PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent false detection of a game medium when a player illegally sets up entry of the game medium.SOLUTION: A game medium detection device 1 includes: a light emission part 3 outputting pulse light having a variable pulse width with a predetermined period; a light receiving part 4 disposed to face the light emission part 3 across a passage to output a signal according to detected light; and a control circuit 51 that sets at least one of the pulse width and light emission intensity of the pulse light emitted by the light emission part 3, causes the light emission part 3 to emit the pulse light having the set pulse width or light emission intensity, determines whether the light detected by the light receiving part 4 is the pulse light or not, according to the signal from the light receiving part 4, and when detecting a second predetermined number of pulse light beams after a first predetermined number of pulse light beams are not detected in a row, determines that a game medium has passed through the passage 6. Every time the pulse light is detected after the first predetermined number of pulse light beams are not detected in a row, the control circuit 51 modulates a third predetermined number of pulse light beams following the detected pulse light. |
