PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a light transmission type head-mounted display device that suppresses the influence of an outside scenery and allows a user to visually observe an appropriate display image even when the outside scenery is changed; and a method of controlling the head-mounted display device.SOLUTION: A light transmission type head-mounted display device comprises: an obtaining section for obtaining original image data; a detection section that detects a spectroscopic brightness distribution of external light; an image correction section that creates image data for display by adjusting the original image data on the basis of a difference between the detected spectroscopic brightness distribution and a target spectroscopic brightness distribution; and an image display section that creates an image light on the basis of the image data for display and allows a user to observe the image light as a false echo image. |
