PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surroundings monitoring-device and a surroundings monitoring-method, which maintain display of a camera image even after an obstacle has moved to a dead zone of a sensor and give a better feeling of ease to a driver by confirming that the vehicle has completely avoided the obstacle.SOLUTION: When a clearance sonar 3 detects an obstacle, a surroundings monitoring ECU 1 automatically switches display on a display to an image picked up by a camera 5. The ECU 1 calculates surrounding article position information of the obstacle from a wheel speed and a steering angle of a vehicle itself 30, determines presence or absence of the obstacle within the pickup range of the camera 5, and maintains the display of the image picked up by the camera 5 as long as the obstacle exists within the pickup range of the camera 5 even in the case where the obstacle enters the dead zone of the clearance sonar 3. |
