The adjuster has a coupling linkage (5) together with a position element (4) designed as an active connection chain for direct mechanical coupling of side flanges and side flange wings (2a, 3a) such that an effective length of an active connection of the flanges and the wings is adjusted by the position element. An actuator (13) acts between the couple linkage and a vehicle seat (1) and is provided for active displacement of the coupling linkage relative to the vehicle seat. The active displacement produces pivoting of the flanges and the wings in a same direction.
