This internal combustion engine comprises: a large-diameter intake port (134a) and a small-diameter intake port (134b) for taking air into a combustion chamber (123); a large-diameter intake valve (121a) which is provided to the large-diameter intake port and which opens and closes the large-diameter intake port; an intake valve (121b) smaller in diameter than the large-diameter intake valve, which is provided to the small-diameter intake port and which opens and closes the small-diameter intake port; a first ignition plug (124a) provided in the middle of the combustion chamber, between the large-diameter intake valve and the small-diameter intake valve; and a second ignition plug (124b) provided in the periphery of the combustion chamber, in proximity to the small-diameter intake valve.
