An automatic engine-stopping vehicle equipped with: a variator; a forward/reverse switching mechanism; and a controller that stops the engine when a stopping condition is satisfied while the vehicle is driving at a low speed or is stopped, and restarts the engine when a restarting condition, which includes switching to a reverse range, is satisfied. When the restarting condition has been satisfied by switching to the reverse range and the engine is restarted, the controller delays the start time for injecting fuel into the engine, as compared to the start time when the restarting condition has been satisfied by another necessary condition.
