A paper sheet conveyance device includes: a resistance roller (130) which is provided along a paper sheet conveyance path; a pick-up roller (64), a paper feed roller (66), and a separation roller (68), which feed a paper sheet to the paper sheet conveyance path; and a control device (170) which controls the conveyance of a paper sheet in such a manner that, when paper sheets are continuously fed into the paper sheet conveyance path, if a preceding paper sheet is in a stopped state at the resistance roller (130), the control device (170) temporarily stops a succeeding paper sheet, which follows the preceding paper sheet, at a predetermined position (G) downstream of a conveyance roller (140) in the paper sheet conveyance direction and conveys the succeeding paper sheet again toward the resistance roller (130) at predetermined timing. According to the length of paper sheets to be conveyed, the control device (170) changes the timing at which the re-conveyance of the succeeding paper sheet is started.
