PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a media drive control method and a publisher control device mounted with a media drive for more accurately determining a media drive lifetime by considering not only an individual cumulative use time of a CD, DVD and BD head but also a cumulative use time or cumulative standby time of another head for forming a media drive integrally with the CD, DVD and BD head.SOLUTION: The method for controlling a media drive provided with a plurality of kinds of heads includes the steps of: calculating respective operation times of the plurality of kinds of heads as a conversion cumulative operation time taking the other operation times into consideration, converting the calculated conversion cumulative operation time into each activity ratio of the plurality of kinds of heads, and determining a media drive lifetime on the basis of the largest value among the activity ratios. |
