The cutting machine (1) has a machine housing (4), a displaceably mounted carriage (6) having a slide plate for supporting a material to be cut and a carriage base (10). The machine housing has a carriage guide, in which the carriage is mounted in a longitudinally displaceable manner. A counterweight is connected opposite with the carriage. The machine housing comprises a deflection roller, by which a connecting element is guided and the carriage is connected with the counterweight. The machine housing has a slide drive having a motor, by which the connecting element is driven.
