PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens which offers a high zoom ratio, a wide view angle, short total lens length, and superior optical performance throughout an entire zoom range.SOLUTION: A zoom lens includes first through fifth lens groups having positive, negative, positive, negative, and positive refractive power, respectively, arranged in order from the object side to the image side. When zooming in from a wide angle end to a telephoto end, each lens group moves such that the distance between the first lens group and the second lens group widens while the distance between the second lens group and the third lens group narrows, and the distance between the third lens group and the fourth lens group as well as the distance between the fourth lens group and the fifth lens group widen, while the first lens group is positioned further toward the object side. Each of the first lens group and the second lens group comprises one positive lens and one negative lens. Distance values D34w and D34t between the third lens group and the fourth lens group at the wide angle end and at the telephoto end and a focal distance fw of the entire optical system at the wide angle end are set appropriately. |
