PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst composition that reduces variation in catalytic activity, and a method for producing a vinyl compound polymer using the catalyst composition.SOLUTION: A catalyst composition comprises: (A) a half-metallocene-based transition metal compound in which the central metal is at least one chosen from metals of groups 3-5 in the periodic table and lanthanoid metals; (B) a compound capable of reacting with an oxygen-containing compound and/or a transition metal compound to form an ionic complex; (C) a compound represented by formula (I): RAl(OR)X[wherein Rand Rare each a 1-8C alkyl group; X is a halogen atom; and m and n satisfy the relations: 0<m≤3, 0≤n<3 and m+n≤3]; and (D) a compound represented by formula (II): RAl(OR)XH [wherein Rand Rare each a 1-8C alkyl group; X is a halogen atom; and p and q satisfy the relations: 0<p≤2, 0≤q<2 and p+q≤2], wherein the addition amount of component (D) is 1-100 in terms of molar ratio to component (A), and the total addition amount of components (C) and (D) is 10-1,000 in terms of molar ratio to component (A). |
