PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust system for an engine, which can excellently promote or effectively suppress heat exchange between exhaust gas and coolant.SOLUTION: An exhaust system for an engine includes an exhaust main channel (3) through which exhaust gas from an engine flows; a catalyst (7) which purifies the exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust main channel (3); and a bypass passage (70) which connects to the exhaust main channel (3) on the downstream and upstream of the catalyst (7) and bypasses the catalyst (7). In the exhaust system, a first portion (11) of part of the exhaust main channel (3) is adjacent to a second portion (22) of part of a coolant passage (21) through which coolant of the engine flows, while sandwiching a third portion (72) of part of the bypass passage (70) therebetween, and a flow rate adjustment means (81) is included which can adjust a flow rate of the exhaust gas flowing in the third portion (72). |
